New York does not require one. Under Limited Liability Company Law section 301 the Secretary of State is already your agent for service of process, and section 302 makes a private agent optional. Others will sell you one for $199 a year. We will not.

We cannot quote this in advance. The county clerk assigns your newspapers after you file, and each sets its own rate. In New York County it commonly runs $1,000 to $2,000. It is the largest hidden cost in any state we serve.
